The rent is €500, an affordable opportunity for those seeking quality of life. Don't miss the chance to live in a renovated and practical space. Expenses are not included in the rent.
It also has a garage and a large laundry room, offering unobstructed views of the countryside and mountains. Located in a very pleasant, quiet area with green spaces, it benefits from a leisure area for picnics with the ancient Roman Castle surrounded by a beautiful river with a summer swimming pool.
Built in the 1st century, the Castellum de Alcabideque is a water tower, located next to a collecting tank, which served essentially to capture and raise water to the aqueduct, about 3km long, that transported it to the city of Conímbriga. Having lost its original function, the Castellum survives as an example of Roman construction ingenuity. The name Alcabideque, Arabicized by the prefix -al, originates from a Latin root – caput aquae – which literally means "mother of water" and identifies the water spring located there.
The Castellum of Alcabideque is classified as a National Monument.
The location is another strong point: Condeixa has all the essential services, such as a market, schools, and transport, ensuring practicality in daily life.
Legend of the Alcabideque spring.
Many, many years ago, in Roman times, the village of Alcabideque was experiencing a year of great drought.
One fine day, a woman was grazing her flock when she saw a bird emerging from a hole, its beak and feet wet.
Recovering from her astonishment, she ran to the village to call her neighbors to see this phenomenon. They all began to dig and found a spring. There was a party all night long because the drought had ended.
The Romans, some years later, covered the spring with a tower (Castellem de Alcabideque) and channeled the water to the city of Conímbriga.
From that day on, it became a region abundant in water, and Alcabideque became synonymous with "springs of water" and "water of God".
